Why choose village life in the Chorley area?

We talked about how more people are choosing Chorley for their dream move – especially since the stamp duty holiday. But the region’s charm reaches beyond the borders of the vibrant market town, with several stunning villages within easy driving distance. The increased popularity of working from home has meant the importance of community over commuting has become a big factor for homebuyers. And village life in and around Chorley is a popular draw for movers who want easy access to Manchester and Preston within a semi-rural setting.

Here are some of the charming villages that we receive the most enquiries about properties for.

Round the corner from our Buckshaw Village offices, Euxton lies just west of Chorley and offers access to Yarrow Valley Country Park. Pick a spot for a family picnic or a quiet walk in nature – this idyllic spot boasts green flag status and free visitor parking. Properties in Euxton range from semi-detached starter homes to larger detached houses and period properties.

Home to many walking and cycling trails, plus a large and well maintained children’s play area, Brinscall is ideal for families who love the outdoors. With access to bluebell filled woods and the rolling West Pennine moors, the village combines a close-knit community feel with closeness to nature. Brinscall properties always prove popular, with terraces and detached properties in demand all year round.

Offering country living but with good motorway access, this picturesque waterside village features pretty sloping streets and welcoming pubs. While the Leeds-Liverpool canal is no longer a vital industrial link, residents can still enjoy boating, fishing and walks along the towpath. Properties are divided between Wheelton and Higher Wheelton, both well served by excellent local schools and amenities.

A few miles south of Chorley, at the foot of the famous pike, the village of Rivington is surrounded by beautiful countryside. In addition to the hill itself, it’s well worth exploring the impressive terraced gardens on its slopes before a bite to eat at historic Rivington Barn. Despite its country setting, Rivington village is close enough to the M61 to offer great access to Preston, Bolton and Manchester.

Another gem on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, Adlington lies just south of Chorley and has won numerous ‘best kept village’ awards. Notable hubs include the refurbished village hall and ‘White Bear Marina’ – the largest on the canal and popular with walkers, cyclists and anglers. One of the larger villages in the Chorley area, Adlington is especially sought after for family homes and starter properties.

A picture perfect place with well preserved historical features, this village sits on the River Yarrow and has received repeated ‘North West in Bloom’ recognition. Notable sights include the 15th century cobbled packhorse bridge and the traditional weavers cottages. There are desirable dwellings such as red brick houses, within walking distance of the small station offering direct rail links to Liverpool and Preston.
