Choose Chorley – why this market town is right for you

Moving house has been a hot topic of conversation lately thanks to the stamp duty holiday (and its recent extension). Despite the ongoing pandemic on a worldwide scale, as Red Rose we have been very pleased to see that it hasn’t meant that everyone has put their life on hold. Quite the opposite in fact, with so many choosing to move to their dream property despite the ongoing issues.

If all this focus on moving house has give you the urge to move, or you were already planning on it, you’ll of course need to decide the area in which you wish to live. You might be restricted but if not, we can highly recommend you consider Chorley as one of your serious options. As experts in the local area and based in Buckshaw Village, we know all there is to know about our surroundings so can answer any questions you might have. But first, read on to see how this town is right for your next home…

Amenities galore

Chorley epitomises the sentiment of a market town and it around the indoor market that the town has grown. Within the indoor section, you’ll find butchers, bakers, grocers, cheesemongers, pet supplies, clothing, gifts, electricals and even incredibly inventive food and drink stalls on the edges. Every Tuesday, you will also find the streets lined with more stalls as more local vendors descend to peddle their wares. It creates a thriving sense of community. But of course, in addition to the markets there is a whole host of high street shops as well as independent retailers, in whose boutiques you can pass your time browsing. Fantastic pubs and bars, great local transport links, plenty of parking in the centre, large supermarkets – we could go on about all the additions making Chorley a great place to live.

Foodie’s delight

You might not associate a small northern town with gastronomic excellence but you would be mistaken to overlook it. In the market itself, you will find extremely high-quality produce, made locally and sold by proud Chorley residents. Delicious cheeses, locally-farmed meat and vegetables from just around the corner will all give you the basis to make great meals at home. There is a Booths and an M&S Food Hall. If you’d prefer someone else do the cooking, head to Papa Luigi’s in Euxton for the perfect Italian, a great pub meal at the Yew Tree Inn in Anglezarke or grab some ethical, local and hearty meals from Bees Country Kitchen in the market. There are also other places offering tapas, American BBQ, cafés and so much more to choose from. And don’t forget – on a hot day you’ll need to head to Frederick’s Ice Cream to try their delicious flavours. Be prepared to queue though!

The perfect place for a family

Whether you have one already, or are planning one in the future, Chorley has a great set up to suit all the different types of family. From a wide choice of excellent local schools in close proximity to (or within) residential areas, to an abundance of parks on your doorstep that’s two of the key factors taken into account. But there’s much more in Chorley too. Inspire Youth Zone is right in the town centre and is a fantastic, purpose-built facility designed to carer to the needs of 8- to 19-year-olds, as well as those with disabilities aged up to 25 years. There are soft play centres, toddler classes and the new cinema and Escape Entertainment Venue (again, right in the centre of town) are all great ways to entertain your loved ones.

Proximity to open spaces

If you love the great outdoors then Chorley could not be more perfect. Astley Park, on the edge of the town centre, has seen significant investment and improvements made. There are well-quipped children’s play areas, crown green bowling, café and deli shop, green fields and stunning woodland walks all to enjoy. Yarrow Valley Park is another such space filled with small lakes or ‘lodges’ and nearby is the beauty White Coppice woodland to wander through. With a canal nearby to stroll along, as well as being near to beautiful spots such as Rivington, Chorley is surrounded by natural beauty.
